Spring Staples look book

Updated: Apr 29, 2020

Now that the spring season is upon us it can be easy to go overboard with endless amounts of new clothing. But what spring pieces do we need in our wardrobes and what will we get the most wear out of? Here are my top clothing pieces to splurge on this spring season.

Denim Skirt

A denim skirt is an essential for those casual, chilled out spring days and can be paired with other items in your wardrobe to make a variety of outfits. Style with a pretty blouse or basic crop top and you're good to go. Here, a basic white denim mini skirt from Topshop is paired with a black crop top. Simple but effortlessly casual and comfortable for any activity.

Lightweight Jacket

Despite the weather warming up, a lightweight spring jacket is essential for those cooler evenings. It's also great for travel as it takes up little room in your suitcase or overnight bag. This brown cropped corduroy jacket from Shein is great to throw on over almost any outfit and comes in a variety of colours.

Straight leg trousers

Everyone has those days when they don't feel like wearing jeans, so why not opt for a flattering pair of trousers instead? These stone coloured wide leg trousers from Pretty Little Thing will go with many outfits as they are in a neutral tone. In a light cotton material, these trousers are airy, comfortable and perfect for spring time. They can be dressed up or down but ultimately make your outfit look more put together. In this look the trousers are worn with a basic white top but could also be worn with a spring blouse or t-shirt for a completely different look.

Jumpsuit

A jumpsuit is the perfect option for those lazy days when you don't know what to wear but want to look effortlessly stylish. Throw on this one piece, add a few accessories and your outfit is complete. If it's slightly too chilly for a sleeveless jumpsuit, simply style with a t-shirt underneath for a layered look. This jumpsuit from Miss Selfridge can be dressed up or down and worn for many different occasions, making it a wardrobe staple for everyone.

Midi skirt

A midi or maxi skirt is an ideal piece to help you transition from winter to spring. These skirts can be tailored to your specific style and come in a variety of spring colours and vibrant prints. If you're worried about losing the shape of your figure, add a belt around the skirt to help accentuate your waist. If your style isn't particularly feminine, try paring a midi skirt with a graphic tee and a pair of biker boots for a more edgy and grungier look. Here, a basic white cami from Topshop is paired with a midi skirt from Misguided for a daytime look.

detailed blouse or top

When it comes to spring, delicate blouses in vibrant colours and prints are worth spending your money on. Teamed with almost any item in your wardrobe, these tops look glamorous, sophisticated and incredibly feminine. Although this style of top will not be to everyone's taste, it screams spring and is the perfect way to add a little colour into your wardrobe. Here, a coral top with puff sleeve detail from Zara is paired with some black wide leg trousers for a simple yet stylish look.

Building your spring wardrobe

These items are only a few spring essentials and you will need to build the rest of your wardrobe with year round basics such as t-shirts, jeans and multiple pairs of shoes. This will ensure you always have an outfit to wear and can create many stylish looks from just a few pieces. All the outfits in this lookbook are worn with a simple pair of white trainers which is a popular shoe choice for many people. Being stylish isn't all about spending as much money as you can and having a large wardrobe full of clothes, it's about learning which pieces work best for you and how they can be combined to express your personality and sense of style.
